Regulating Dampers

Regulating dampers control air flow in pipes, chimneys, and other air treatment systems. In industrial buildings, these dampers are used to regulate air flow in air conditioning systems, for dispersion, suction or air-mixing applications. The dampers come in different shapes, selected according to the volume, temperature and pressure of the air that passes through them. The main regulating dampers are positioned at different points throughout the AC ducts, and they are operated by handles or motors. Blade strength, determined by the shape of the blade and the thickness of the material it is made of, varies according to the size of the damper and the pressure levels it is designed to withstand.

OBD (Opposed Blade Dampers), a specific type of regulating damper, are usually assembled directly on air diffusers. The blades in these dampers operate in two opposing directions, to ensure that equal amounts of air are diffused across all areas of the grill.

In a round air diffuser, the regulating damper typically has two half-round blades that move like butterfly wings to cover the entire opening of the diffuser. Another form of damper used in round air diffusers is a horizontal fan with blades moving in parallel, which diffuses the necessary quantity of air in any situation.
