Statistics show that smoke inhalation is the leading cause of death in indoor fires. Israel’s revised Planning and Building Regulations (Israel Standard 1001) require stairwells to be constructed with air pressurization systems, which create smoke-free escape routes in the event of a fire.

1. A compression system consisting of roof-mounted fans, which continuously compress outside air through a shaft along the stairwell;

2. A smoke suction system that removes smoke from the lobby of the building in order to enable people to evacuate into the protected stairwell, with minimal smoke inhalation.
